Army Corp of Engineers Cast Aluminum Georgetown Castle Gatehouse
This cast aluminum sculpture copies the structure, called the Georgetown Castle Gatehouse, built by the Army (c. 1901). The Georgetown Reservoir is a part of the water supply and treatment infrastructure for the District of Columbia. It is located in the Palisades area of Washington, D.C., approximately two miles downstream from the Maryland-D.C. boundary. The reservoir was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as part of the Washington Aqueduct project. It was partially completed by 1858 and began operation while construction continued. Additional construction and modifications to the reservoir were carried out through the 1860's and 1870's. This bas releif cast aluminum castle is 44" X 31" X 2.25" . Found at a local market years ago, probably rescued from the scrapyard. Heavy piece with threaded bosses for mounting on the back.
